A dedication ceremony for Blue Heron Golf Course's new clubhouse will be held 10 a.m. Aug. 8 at its location, 101 Queen Colony High Road in Stevensville. The public is welcome to attend the ceremony. The new clubhouse is open and offers a lunch and golf special Wednesdays and Fridays, which includes 18-hole greens fee, cart, and lunch for $25 or 9-hole greens fee, cart, and lunch for $15. All Ages; Location: Reed Center; Speaker: Lost Towns Staff SERC is partnering with the Anne Arundel County Lost Towns Archeological team to help history come alive by learning about our colonial past and participating in a dig on the Contee Farm property. We'll start at SERC with a brief talk, then we'll journey to a dig site where you will be trained to help sift colonial artifacts with the dig team. For ages 12 and older. Author Bill Fenimore will sign copies of his book, "Backyard Birds of Maryland," from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at The Wild Bird Center, 14 Annapolis St. This book is one of the first volumes of a new series exploring the top 25 backyard birds most commonly found in each state. It includes a profiled bird scale that allows readers to identify the correct bird, and each bird entry is accompanied by a color photograph with descriptions such as identification marks, behavior, habitat, and nesting style. Part of the Wild Bird Centers of America Inc, the center is dedicated to helping customers develop a better backyard birding experience by providing field-tested products, old-fashioned customer service, and expert advice. The Talent Machine Company's teen cast will be presenting Evita as its annual summer production. Evita, told entirely through song and dance, follows the life of Argentina's infamous Eva Peron. The show is presented by a cast of more than 20 teens from throughout Anne Arundel County with very strong performance backgrounds. The show is vocally powerful with music written for Evita by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice combined with the moving portrayal of the life of Eva (Duarte) Peron. Show dates and times are August 1, 2, 7, 8, 9 at 7:30, August 3rd at 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 and August 10th @ 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.00 for General Admission and $10.00 for children under age 7. Seeking Liberty: Annapolis, An Imagined Community   Show/Hide details
In 2008, the right to citizen-elected representation in Annapolis will be 300 years old. The city charter granted to Annapolis in 1708 gave the city political reality. With this exhibit we commemorate the current anniversary by celebrating the quest for liberty. Many of these artifacts have never been on display for the public before this. Visit the exhibit which will be on display at the Banneker-Douglas Museum in Annapolis from February through November 2008. There will also be a few smaller exhibits open to the public at some of the sites involved in the exhibit. The exhibition was funded by a grant from Preserve America. This exhibition features a free cell phone audio tour generously funded by a grant from the Four Rivers Heritage Area.
