CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — The Maryland Department of Natural Resources wants hunters to kill more black bears this year.
Bear Project Manager Harry Spiker says the minimum harvest quota has been raised to 55 from 50 in 2007. The upper limit is 75, up from 70 last year.
The DNR stopped last year's hunt after 51 bears were taken.
The agency begins accepting applications Friday for the six-day hunt starting October 20th.
