Capital Gazette Communications
Academic All-Star Scholarships
Capital Gazette Communications’ Academic All-Star Scholarships honor outstanding seniors in Anne Arundel and Queen Anne’s County high schools. Through this competition, we honor exceptional students and encourage them to continue their education in college.
Winners are chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement, leadership, extracurricular activities and other services to the school and community. Any student in the upper 15% of the senior class is eligible, regardless of family income.
Scholars and Awards
The Academic All-Star Team will consist of one exceptional student from each of these 13 accredited public high schools: Annapolis, Arundel, Broadneck, Chesapeake, Glen Burnie, Kent Island, Meade, North County, Northeast, Old Mill, Severna Park, Southern and South River, and these 5 private high schools: Annapolis Area Christian, Key, St. Mary’s, Severn, and Archbishop Spalding. Each winner will receive a one-time cash award of $1,500 to be used toward college tuition.
Three students will be chosen from the All-Star Team to receive larger cash awards. The first place winner will receive $15,000; a $3,750 initial award, followed by $3,750 annually for the three remaining undergraduate years.
Second place provides a $10,000 scholarship consisting of four annual payments of $2,500. Third place provides an award of $5,000 distributed over two years. The first, second, and third place scholarships are in lieu of the $1,500 award.
Eligibility
Eligibility for scholarships is limited to students who attend the above listed accredited public, private, and parochial high schools and rank in the upper 15% of their senior class. First, second and third place winners enrolling in a service academy will receive a one-time maximum award of $1,500.
