Walking Tours

Anytime is a beautiful time in historic downtown Annapolis to enjoy special walking tours presented by Historic Annapolis Foundation. All tours begin at HAF's Museum Store at 77 Main Street at City Dock.

"Historic Annapolis Walk with Walter Cronkite" is an audio tour that gives residents and visitors alike the opportunity to walk the same streets as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. The tour wends its way from City Dock to the State House, St. John's College, William Paca House and Garden, and Shiplap House. There are 18 stops in all, and it's a great way to get a feel for what life was like when our nation was born.

"Historic Annapolis African-American Heritage Walking Tour" is next. Since Kunta Kinte first landed here, African Americans have carved their way into Annapolis history. Explore the city through the eyes and experiences of its African-American residents. As early as 1800, the African Americans represented 42 per cent of the city's population. Their influence adds to the charm and historic significance of Annapolis as exemplified by the one-time homes of John Maynard, William Butler and William Bishop. These African Americans lived as free men at the time of the Revolutionary War.

"Revolutionary Annapolis," is a self-guided tour that tells the story of patriot William Paca as it leads visitors through 19 sites in the historic district. By following William Paca's story through the streets of Annapolis, visitors will see the city as it appeared to him more than 200 years ago and learn what life was like during the revolutionary era.
